The Business

Brown Fabrications was conceptualized several years ago by native Austinite, Cynthia Brown. Ms Brown started sewing over 20 years ago as a personal endeavor. Over the course of time, her personal sewing has connected wiith a love of arts and crafts, and from that point, Brown Fabrications was born. Her first brown doll was given as a gift over 10 years ago, and from that moment the demand for this item and others like it continues to grow.

Who Is Brown Fabrications?

Brown Fabrications is owned by me, Cynthia Brown. I was born and raised in Austin, Texas and have always called the capital city my home. I tend to see inspiriation and creativity in all things around us- as a gift from the universe that we live in. My goal is to tap into this gift, nurture it, and help it grow.

Part of my creative drive for this business, stems from what I saw as the lack of diversity of 'people colors' in the doll industry when I was growing up. When children play with dolls they have a natural tendency to be attracted to dolls that look like them. Being African-American, my mother had to look long and hard to find these dolls for me to play with, and by the time she could find brown dolls on a regular basis, I had outgrown the desire to play with dolls. When I make my dolls, angels, and puppets, I want them to reflect and affirm the diversity of 'people colors' that we live in and are around us in our everyday lives.
